Two suspected loan sharks were arrested in Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday May 10.

Officers from Hertfordshire Police and England’s Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) executed a search warrant at an address in the town, at which documents and electronic devices were discovered.

A 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were taken into custody and questioned.

They have since been released while police continue their investigation.

Tony Quigley, Illegal Money Lending Team Leader, said: ‘We are determined to warn residents of the dangers of loan sharks and will work with partners to take action against them.

“The loan sharks are criminals who prey on the most vulnerable people in our communities.

“They trap their victims in a spiral of debt and often resort to intimidation and violence.

“We will not tolerate such activity in Hertfordshire and urge anyone with information about loan sharks to report it as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Mike MacGregor, community protection manager for the Hertfordshire County Council Trading Standards, said: “We know that the rising cost of living is putting pressure on household finances, but we are actively encouraging residents to use reliable sources of funding to avoid falling prey to loan sharks.

‘There are a number of credit unions in Hertfordshire which provide access to low cost and reputable loans, for example Dacorum First Credit Union based in Hemel Hempstead.’

Anyone concerned about illegal money lending can contact the Stop Loan Sharks helpline on 0300 555 2222 or access online support.

Better.com CEO Vishal Garg, who drew attention for laying off nearly 900 employees during a Zoom call in 2021, admitted to employees that he had “personally guaranteed” $750 million over the injection of $1.5 billion into the company by SoftBank.

It was Garg, not the company, that took responsibility for compensating Japanese investment giant SoftBank for any losses, TechCrunch reports.

On November 30, 2021, Better.com, which is a digital mortgage lender, announced that “Aurora Acquisition Corp and SoftBank have decided to amend the terms of their financing agreement to provide Better with half of the $1.5 billion dollars they committed immediately instead of waiting until the deal is done.”

A filing from Aurora said “Top Founder and CEO, as an individual, has agreed to enter into a side letter with SoftBank that he may be liable for realized losses or receive payments under certain circumstances from SoftBank in framework of the post-closing of the convertible notes”.

In response, Garg, in an email to employees, admitted personal responsibility for the injection of $750 million, the report said Friday evening.

“I’m fully committed to everything I own and will ever own. In five years, when this $750 million loan from SoftBank comes due around my 50th birthday, that means I have nothing. Well, at less, we’ll have given it a real hit…it’s true. I personally guaranteed three-quarters of a billion dollars and I’m personally responsible for it,” he told employees.

The report, citing sources, also says Better.com has in recent weeks offered “its workers in India the option to leave under a voluntary separation agreement.” In total, nearly 920 workers had their resignations accepted.

After laying off nearly 4,000 employees in the United States and India, digital mortgage lender Better.com offered employees severance pay or voluntary separation and health insurance coverage.

According to the company, uncertain mortgage market conditions have created an extremely difficult operating environment for many companies in the sector.

Since Okey Sampson, Umuahia

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and an aspiring People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governor in the state, Chief Ncheta Omerekpe, are on a war footing over an alleged 300 million loan of dollars that would have been granted to the state government by the African Development Bank.

Are you a 40+ male? Don’t miss Vital Information, it leaves in 2 days! CLICK HERE to READ .

Omerekpe had on his tour of the local government areas of the state to meet the delegates of the PDP primaries, told them: “I got a loan of $300 million from the African Development Bank for the state” after the Governor “ran to me”.

In a quick reaction, Ikpeazu, in a statement through his chief press officer, Onyebuchi Ememanka, said: “Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating online where a Mr. Ncheta Omerekpe, aspiring to the governorship of Abia State on the platform of the PDP, made very ridiculous claims against the person of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his administration.

“It is elementary to know that the African Development Bank does not need Omerekpe to guarantee a loan to the government of Abia State or any other government. Transactions at this level follow established and internationally recognized standard procedures and processes.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let it be made clear that to date the Abia State Government has not accessed any loan of $300 million or any amount from the Bank African development”.

The statement made it clear that Ikpeazu does not need anyone’s intervention before he can speak to the authorities of the African Development Bank, whose chairman, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, he said, maintained strong personal and official relations with the governor and the state government.

Premature ejaculation and “little joystick” solved in 7 days… Click Here for more details .

Ikpeazu said in March 2020 that he led a delegation of state government officials to a meeting with Dr. Adesina at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan where issues of sustainable development and critical areas of economic collaboration between the bank and state government were discussed.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance and the National Assembly, who play a statutory role in these bilateral financial arrangements, are fully aware of the status of discussions between the Abia State Government and the African Development Bank.

“$300 million is a lot of money. At no time has the government of Abia State had access to such money or any amount from the African Development Bank.

Any serious person can easily get information on such things from federal government agencies like the Office of Debt Management.

On Omerekpe’s claim in the same video that he facilitated another investment from the same African Development Bank in agriculture to the tune of around $2 billion for the state government, but that the investment was frustrated because some state government officials allegedly demanded a $200 million bribe from the investor, Ikpeazu denied, saying he would never ask for a gratuity from any investor before investing in the state.

The governor noted that he would take the PDP gubernatorial aspirant to court for slandering him over the corruption allegation.

“Omerekpe will hear from the governor’s lawyers very soon,” the statement added.

However, following Ememanka’s statement, the Omerekpe camp came out to say that its principal stood by his earlier claim to facilitate the loan for the state.

A statement from Nnamdi Okogbuo,

The Managing Director of Campaign Organization Ncheta Omerekpe said, “For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Ncheta Elvis Omerekpe came into the picture in the African Development Bank (AfDB) loan when it was alleged that Dr. Alex Otti had blocked access to the loan.

“Therefore, his company (Omerekpe) was consulted for intervention as a consultant, pro bono, and he defended the loan before the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Loans, led by Senator Shehu Sani during the 8th Senate.

“The following people accompanied Chief Omerekpe before the Senate Committee, Senator TA Orji, Senator Enyi Abaribe, Obinna Oriaku, Bob Ogu, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha among others.

Applications for emergency agricultural loans for damage and harm caused by Drought (Expressway) occurring November, 1st, 2021 and carry on are accepted at the Agricultural Services Agency office located in Tyler starting today according to Clinton Warrick.

Gregg, Henderson, Black-smith, Upshur and Van Zandt are 5 of 107 counties in texas recently named by the president Bideneligible for loans to cover part of the actual production and/or physical losses resulting from the disaster.

Oarrick said farmers may be eligible for loans of up to 100% of their actual losses or the operating loan needed to continue the farming business, whichever is lower. For farmers unable to obtain credit from private commercial lenders, the interest rate is 3.75%.

“As a general rule, a farmer must have suffered a loss of agricultural production of at least 30% or suffered a physical loss to be eligible for anot FSA emergency loan under disaster designation,” said Oarrick. Producers who participate in the federal crop insurance program will have to take into account the proceeds of these programs in determining their production loss. In addition, any insurance proceeds received by producers as a result of physical loss must be taken into account in determining their total loss.

“Applications for loans under this emergency designation will be accepted until December 222022, but farmers should apply as soon as possible. Delays in demand could create backlogs in processing, with possible delays in new agricultural seasons. » Oarrick mentioned.

FSA is a credit agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. It is authorized to provide emergency disaster loans to recognized farms that work and depend on agriculture for a substantial part of their lives. Eligibility is extended to individual farms that meet US citizenship requirements and agricultural partnerships, corporations, or cooperatives in which US citizenship requirements are met by individuals with majority ownership.

The FSA office is located at 4209 Republic Drive, Tyler, TX 75701. The phone number is (903) 405-5676 with office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information regarding disaster assistance programs can be found online at http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov.

People with severe disabilities have been able to get their student loans forgiven since 1965. But it’s a daunting process that often fails those who need debt relief the most.

For example, a white paper produced by disability rights advocates tells the story of a woman who lost both her legs and was unable to work. She applied for Social Security disability benefits and discharge of her remaining student loan debt.

The benefits have manifested. But the student loan paperwork bounced back – because her doctor forgot to certify the ostensibly obvious fact that having two legs below her knees counts as the “very severe” type of impairment needed for the debt to be discharged.

Bureaucratic hurdles like this have cost people with disabilities billions of dollars — a disproportionate number of them over the age of 50 — preventing them from earning enough money to continue paying off their student loans.

Now the federal government is trying to fix the process. But while critics say the improvements are substantial, there are still important caveats, especially for people over 62.

“The problem we’ve been trying to solve is a problem that many government programs face, which is just bureaucracy and messy paperwork,” said Bethany Lilly, senior director of revenue policy at The Arc. , which advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. disabilities.

Reforms have been slow

You can have your student loans canceled if you are totally and permanently disabled, that is, unable to earn an income due to a medical or mental impairment that has lasted at least five years or is expected to result in death. Veterans with service-related disabilities may also have their student loans forgiven.

In practice, this has proven to be “illusory protection”, found the Center for the Protection of Student Borrowers. Many eligible borrowers either didn’t know they were or got lost in “unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles” while trying to juggle student loan repayments and long-term medical bills on fixed incomes.

Among the biggest of those hurdles: a requirement that candidates check their income annually to make sure they weren’t being paid. If they didn’t confirm their income or repay their loans, the government could take what they still owed from their Social Security checks.

“It was terrible. It was absolutely terrible,” said John Whitelaw, advocacy director for the Community Legal Aid Society. “The Department of Education had really too narrow rules about who could qualify.”

According to a survey conducted by the US Government Accountability Office. GAO found that a large number of borrowers with disabilities started but never completed the process of requesting loan forgiveness, even though they were likely eligible for loan forgiveness; 90% of people aged 50 and over whose benefits were withheld because they failed to repay their loans were later found to be eligible for cancellation of those loans.

The income verification requirement has proven culprit in many of these cases. About 20% of borrowers 50 and older who had successfully had their loan forgiven had their debt abruptly reinstated — almost all because they hadn’t submitted the form, the GAO reported.

“All of these people failed not because they earned too much but because they couldn’t do the paperwork,” Whitelaw said. It’s especially common, he said, for people with disabilities to be stymied by bureaucratic challenges like that.

Even when the Department of Education tried to make it easier for them, many people still did not complete the loan cancellation application. In 2016, the department wrote to 234,000 borrowers of all ages whose Social Security records indicated they were eligible to have their loans canceled because they were disabled, and who would likely be approved if they applied. . Of these, less than 1 in 10 responded.

Under pressure from Congress and state attorneys general, the Department of Education agreed in 2019 to forego red tape and automatically discharge the remaining student loan debt of approximately 20,000 totally and permanently disabled veterans. But the same accommodation was only originally provided for non-veterans last year.

That’s when the department extended the automatic pardon to non-veterans who, according to the Social Security database, met the definition of being totally and permanently disabled. He also temporarily dropped the requirement for annual income verification, a change he proposed to make permanent. The new rules are expected to be finalized by November, a department spokesperson said.

“They had all this data, and you would have thought they could have come in and gone through it,” Lilly said, but it took until now to do that.

TEXARKANA — A superseding indictment filed in an opioid distribution conspiracy case charges the owners and operators of Lansdell Family Clinics with health care and wire fraud involving pandemic relief funds.

The initial indictment was filed in January in the Texarkana Division of the Western District of Arkansas. He accused eight nurse practitioners and pharmacists of conspiring to distribute opioids – hydrocodone and oxycodone in particular – without a prescription from “around” January 2019 until August 1, 2021.

The accusation essentially means that prescription drugs were dispensed without a legitimate medical purpose.

A number of clinics and pharmacies in southwestern Arkansas were raided by federal agents with the assistance of local law enforcement in May 2021, including the offices of the Lansdell Family Clinic in Texarkana, De Queen, Lockesburg and Dierks.

Tawnya Lee Lansdell, a nurse practitioner, is the first defendant named in the original and superseding indictments. She is charged in the replacement indictment with conspiracy to distribute opioids, health care fraud and wire fraud.

Relatives of Tawyna Lansdell’s husband, Michael; his brother, Rusty Lynn Griffin; and his nephew, Michael “Mick” Wallace Martin, are also named defendants in the superseding indictment and are charged with crimes related to pandemic relief.

Lansdell Family Clinic PLLC and Lansdell Farms LLC are also charged in the superseding indictment.

Count 1 of the replacement indictment contains allegations identical to those alleged in the original indictment. Nurse practitioners Tawnya Lansdell, Claire Terece Russell, Wendy Wynette Gammon, Shelly Rae Eastridge and Bonita Lois Martin, as well as pharmacists Candace Michelle Whitley, Gina M. Richardson and Stephen Haden Sullivan.

Schedule II drugs include substances with high potential for abuse and dependence, including opioids like oxycodone and hydrocodone and stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin. Schedule III drugs include substances like Tylenol along with codeine and ketamine, according to the DEA’s website.
