Cavs and Monsters Host Pride Parties at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to Benefit Local LGBTQ+ Groups

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters are thrilled to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and their allies with back-to-back Pride Nights this weekend at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Throughout the weekend, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse’s massive exterior curtain wall will be lit with the colorful shades of the rainbow in recognition of the LGBTQ+ community.

“As an organization, we strive to be present and authentically engaged in all of our local communities, and our annual Pride Night is a time when we can honor the voices, hard work and accomplishments of the LBGTQ+ community,” said Kevin Clayton, vice president of diversity, inclusion and community engagement for the Cleveland Cavaliers. “While a lot of hard work goes into making our Pride Nights possible, this is more than just one night. We are very proud to work alongside such wonderful LGBTQ+ partners to continue advancing inclusion for all.

Cleveland Monsters Second Annual Pride Night

The celebration begins with the Cleveland Monsters game on Friday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. against the Rochester Americans:

  • The Monsters and Americans will use commemorative Pride pucks in Friday’s warm-ups, which will then be available for purchase through the DASH auction platform. Proceeds from online purchases of a special Pride Puck will benefit the Community AIDS Service Network/Akron Pride Initiative (CANAPI), a grassroots non-profit organization that serves and promotes the well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community and those at risk of and/or affected by HIV through the education, support services and quality housing; and advocacy.
  • The two teams will both specialize in sports pride band on their hockey sticks during the game to support the cause with multiple Monsters hockey sticks available to bid via HYPHEN. pride band is a global grassroots community movement that was created to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport, and has quickly grown to become a globally recognized symbol for inclusion in hockey.
  • In-game 50/50 raffle proceeds will benefit Lake County LGBT+ Center, whose mission is to foster a safe place for the LGBTQ+ community in Lake County through advocacy, compassion, education, and service.
  • Local drag personality Peach Fuzz will drop the puck from the game.

    Cleveland Cavaliers Third Annual Pride Night

    City Edition

    The Cavaliers will hold their Pride Night on Saturday, January 22 at 8:00 p.m. against Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • In-game 50/50 raffle proceeds will benefit Pride of the CLE, presented by the Greater Cleveland LGBT Community Center, with a mission to enrich the lives of the diverse LGBTQ+ community through advocacy, support, education and celebration.
  • The Cavaliers will recognize Gio Santiago as the game’s community “DIFF Maker”. Gio’s passion is making sure LGBTQ+ people, especially those who are transgender, feel empowered and supported. Whether through political work or creating programs like the LGBTQ Youth Sports League or his staffed nonprofit META Center Inc, Gio prioritizes making a difference so everyone can live a safe and authentic life.
  • The PowerHouse Dance Team and Slam Squad will be outfitted in the Cavaliers Pride Collection.
  • A special half-time performance from the Cavs PowerHouse Dance Team will feature local drag personalities Kardi Redd Diamond, Joliee Blak and Dakota Cox.

    Cleveland Charge First Annual Pride Party

    The Cleveland Charge, presented by the Cleveland Clinic, also celebrated their first annual Pride Night at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center on Tuesday, January 11 against the Windy City Bulls.

    City Edition

    The Charge took a 103-94 victory on the pitch, while off the pitch members of the local LGBTQ+ community had the opportunity to promote their programs and resources throughout the game. Charge players also donned Pride shooting shirts, which were auctioned off to support local LGBTQ+ nonprofits.
